A lot of people don’t believe me when I say this but I never really had a whole beer until I was 21. I remember heading over to Reno, Nevada for my 21st birthday party with a good friend and had my first, full light beer. It was an acquired taste to be sure. Over the years I grew a more fond appreciation for the preparation of ales and broadened my beer buds (beer taste buds). Now I like to fashion myself a fledgling beer lover.
To that end, Stacey’s dessert idea was one that really got me excited. Take a long-time favorite childhood treat and give it an adult twist. It’s quite a match, the smooth, velvety flavor from the stout mixed with the creamy, sweet ice cream. I have never savored a float half as much as I savor the Sloat.
Chocolate Stout Float (Sloat) serves one fully or two happily
Need:
- A good quality ice cream
- Chocolate Stout (also, try a double barrel, Guinness, Nut Brown Ale, or hard cider)
How:
Wash and rinse your mugs, then stick in freezer for 20 minutes, pre-scoop ice cream into mugs (two scoops recommended), allow to freeze for at least an hour. When ready for your Sloat just open your bottle, pour and serve. Straws and spoons optional.
